Hoboken Summer Fun
June 20th is the first official day of summer 2020. What does this mean? Time to enjoy the warmer weather and longer days of summer.
One way to take advantage of this summer is to get outdoors (with social distancing precautions of course). Fortunately, Hoboken has recently been celebrating the re-opening of outdoor activities and parks. If you’re ready to get a head start on summer, check out what’s open in Hoboken:
Kind of a Big Dill
Was anyone else disappointed to hear that the Uptown Farmers Market would be closing for the 2020 season? Well, we have some great news for you, our beloved farmers market will be returning this year, including Hoboken Farmers Market. This annual farmers market will take place on Tuesdays at Church Square Park and in front of Demarest School. You won’t want to miss out on delicious Jersey fresh produce and locally made products. One thing: don’t forget your face mask!
If farmers markets aren’t your thing, you can enjoy some of Hoboken’s best food trucks at Pier 13. This family-friendly pier extends into the Hudson and overlooks the NYC skyline. Food trucks are starting to appear again, and we can’t wait to visit. What food truck will you be hitting up first?
Move It or Lose It
What else is returning to Hoboken? Outdoor fitness classes! We know many people are missing their in-person classes, and studios especially have felt an impact. Gyms and fitness studios can now use parking lots, as well as certain fields and parks for socially distanced outdoor workouts.
strEATERIES and Parklets
Hoboken officially signed a comprehensive Business Recovery Plan to expand outdoor space for small businesses. This is exciting news! Restaurants can set up safe distanced outdoor seating on sidewalks, as well as create shared outdoor spaces as “strEATERIES and Parklets.” The city will build out temporary platforms on the parking spaces for the seasonal months. Plus, Hoboken will completely close some streets to traffic on Sundays and Thursdays in efforts to expand outdoor seating.
A Walk in the Park
Did you know that there are 35 parks in Hoboken, totaling 53 acres of open space? With 9 public dog runs, 13 public playgrounds, 9 public water spray areas, and 11 public recreation facilities including courts and fields - every Hoboken resident lives within a 5-minute walk of a park. So grab your sneakers, water, and headphones and take a walk in the park! The list below includes recently opened parks in Hoboken:
Church Square Park
Columbus Park (Hudson County park)
7th and Jackson Park and Plaza
Pier A Park
Shoprite Green Plaza
Sinatra Park amphitheater
14th Street Viaduct between Grand and Adams Streets (Hudson County Park)
